2007 Mens and Womens Interprovincial Winners
Attention all past representatives ! We are endeavouring to collect pictures of every Mens & Women's Interprovincial side since 1952 to display in our photo gallery. We also want to have a NZ Rep gallery so need pics of all individuals who represented New Zealand. All pics will be scanned and returned. Bay of Plenty District Golf Association was formed on the 1st of May 1948 with the following member clubs.Rotorua,Opotiki,Tauranga,Mount Maunganui,Whakatane,Te Puke,Springfield and Taupo.
The first ever winner of the Champion of Champions Trophy was J Bateman from Tauranga.
The annual levy was set at 6d (sixpence) per full playing member !
In 1952 the following team represented Bay of Plenty at the Freyberg Rosebowl( todays Interprovincial).
NHE Hockin, ND Hayden,W Reid,CL Cutfield,I A Deadman,and AC Relph. Each player was granted 5pound for travel.
The first meeting of the Thames Valley-Bay fo Plenty Women's Golf Association was held at Tauranga in February 1956 with Waihi,Te Puke,Mt.Maunganui,Whakatane,Opotiki,Rotorua,Springfield,Paeroa,Te Aroha and Tauranga Clubs represented.
In 1966 the name of the district was changed to Bay of Plenty-Thames Valley and although with the amalgamation with Bay of Plenty Men's Golf to form Bay of Plenty Golf Incorporated in 2006 was instituted, the Thames Valley Women's Clubs remain a valued part of the amalgamated organisation.
Over the years the district has won the Women's Interprovincial Tournament 17 times. (1954,55,59,64,66,75,81,82,83,86,87,91,96,97,2004,06,07.
Unfortunately no record is available of the players who represented the district in 1954 & 55 but players from 1956 onwards are listed below.Information supplied recently by Sue Bunt, archivist for NZ Golf, tells us that these players were Miss D Blundell, Mrs L Carruthers, Miss U Wickham, Mrs B Carter, Mrs S McDowell, Miss M Cave and Mrs T Lawrence who all made the winning teams in 1954 & 1955. Prior to this BOP players were included in and played for South Auckland
